A BRIEF TIMELINE

ACRC Team Development

acrc history

The ACRC is a team of experienced on-call coordinators (nurse-, paramedic-, and physician-trained) who provide research coverage 24/7 in primarily acute, clinically complex, inpatient clinical trials that need recruitment during off hours and weekends. We have research privileges at several local hospitals with principal investigators who collaborate with UMN clinicians to recruit potential clinical trial participants.

Since 2007, the DEM SIREN Hub - Upper Midwest has grown from two to eleven spokes actively enrolling subjects in one or more NIH-funded clinical trials. The DEM is now expanding our acute care research coordinator (ACRC) expertise to other UMN departments and metropolitan area hospitals through our ISO (internal service organization) and ESO (external service organization) model. We currently work with the following UMN Medical School departments: Neurology (and StrokeNet RCC 18), Cardiology, Dermatology, Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, and Surgery to help support acute and critical care research studies. We also serve as on-call coordinators for five area hospitals in select acute research studies.
